Hint: Xenon is the element of the noble gas family of periodic table. Among all the noble gases xenon forms a maximum number of compounds with other elements of the periodic table such as., fluorine and oxygen. Whereas other noble gases form a very limited number of compounds.
Complete Step by Step Solution:
We all know that noble gases possess \[n{s^2}n{p^6}\]valence electronic configurations. Because all noble gases possess stable outermost shell electronic configurations these are considered as inert gases or non-reactive gases.
After the discovery of the xenon, krypton, and radon compounds with other elements. The noble gases group can be divided into two categories.
(1) Reactive noble gases: This category includes Xenon, Krypton, and Radon.
(2) Non-reactive noble gases: This includes Neon, Argon, and Helium.
Due to stable electronic configuration the noble gases also have high ionisation enthalpy and electron affinity i.e they cannot lose or gain electrons. All the noble gases, xenon is the only gas that forms a maximum number of compounds with fluorine and oxygen due to similar ionisation energy.
The compounds of krypton and radon are very few ( \[Kr{F_2}\]and \[Rn{F_2}\]) compare to xenon (\[Xe{F_2}\], \[Xe{F_4}\], \[Xe{F_6}\], \[Xe{O_3}\] and \[XeO{F_2}\]). Krypton and radon can only form compounds with fluorine. Whereas xenon can form compounds with oxygen and fluorine.
Therefore from the above explanation we can say that fluorine can form compounds with xenon, krypton, and radon. Hence, option (c) will be the correct option:
Note: Xenon compounds are very useful in cancer treatments. Due to the highly oxidising nature of the compounds of xenon, they are considered as toxic in nature. Xenon has no biological application. Xenon is also used in photography flashes.
