IMO Olympiad Eligibility Criteria 2026-27 for Classes 1 to 12
FAQs on IMO Eligibility Criteria 2026-27: Level 1 & Level 2 Qualification Rules
1. Who is eligible for the IMO Olympiad 2026-27?
Students studying in Classes 1 to 12 are eligible for SOF IMO Level 1. There is no minimum marks or percentage requirement for entering the first level.
2. What are the IMO eligibility criteria 2026 for Maths?
For the SOF Mathematics Olympiad, students from Classes 1 to 12 can participate in Level 1 without a minimum percentage requirement. Level 2 is restricted to qualifying students from Classes 3 to 12.
3. What are the IMO Level 2 eligibility criteria?
Students from Classes 3 to 12 can qualify for IMO Level 2 through one of three routes: top 5% class-wise in Level 1, top 25 rank holders from each zone and class, or the eligible school class-topper criterion.
4. What percentage is required to participate in IMO?
There is no minimum school-exam percentage required for IMO Level 1. Students in Classes 1 to 12 can participate based on their current class.
5. What percentage is required to qualify for IMO Level 2?
There is no single fixed percentage that guarantees Level 2 qualification under the top-5% route. SOF determines class-wise qualification cutoffs based on Level 1 performance. Under the school-topper route, the topper must meet the specified 50% qualifying-marks condition, with at least 10 students from that class participating.
6. Is IMO Level 2 only for the top 5% of students?
No. The top 5% class-wise criterion is only one of three routes. Students can also qualify by ranking among the top 25 in their zone and class or through the eligible school-topper criterion.
7. Can Class 1 and Class 2 students qualify for IMO Level 2?
No. SOF does not conduct IMO Level 2 for Classes 1 and 2. Their rankings are based on their Level 1 performance.
8. Is IMO Level 2 compulsory for all students?
No. Not every IMO participant takes Level 2. It is the next stage for qualifying students from Classes 3 to 12 who meet SOF's Level 2 selection criteria.
9. Can a school topper qualify for IMO Level 2?
Yes, provided the SOF school-level conditions are satisfied. At least 10 students from the class must appear, and the class topper must score at least 50% qualifying marks.
10. Do I need to qualify for another Olympiad before appearing for IMO Level 1?
No. SOF IMO Level 1 has no preliminary Olympiad qualification requirement. Students in eligible classes can participate through the SOF registration process.
11. Can a Class 12 student appear for the IMO Olympiad?
Yes. Class 12 students are eligible for IMO Level 1 and can also progress to Level 2 if they meet the qualification criteria.
12. Can students from different school boards participate in IMO?
Yes. SOF prepares its IMO papers with reference to CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus, so students studying under these curricula can participate subject to the applicable SOF eligibility and registration requirements.
13. How does SOF decide Level 2 qualification if students have the same marks?
When students have identical total scores, SOF considers marks obtained in different sections according to its prescribed section-wise priority to determine the higher rank.
