Hint: We will first understand what is the difference between ascending and descending order and then classify the numbers from biggest to smallest and then, we will form 10 examples for doing the same.
Complete step-by-step solution:
First of all, we will calculate the number of digits in any number and if anyone has the maximum number of digits, it will definitely be the biggest number and if any number has the least number of digits, it will be the minimum number.
Now, we are given the numbers as: 5000, 7500, 85400, 7861 .
Now, we see that 5000 has 4 digits, 7500 has 4 digits as well, 85400 has 5 digits and then the last 7861 has 4 digits.
Clearly 85400 has the maximum number of digits. Therefore, it is the biggest of all the numbers.
Now, we are left with 3 numbers with 4 digits each.
We will look at them according to their place values. For a four digits number, we will have to use Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones.
We will look at the Thousands place first of all, we see that 7 is the largest number in thousands column which occurs in both 7500 and 7861.Now, we will look at the Hundreds place to break the tie. So, 7861 is the largest number among these 3. Then we have 7500 and last 5000.
\[\therefore \] the final descending order is 85400 > 7861 > 7500 > 5000.
Now, we require 10 more such examples:-
Example 1: Arrange the following numbers in descending order:
500, 75, 80000, 7000
$ \Rightarrow $ We see that 80000 has 5 digits, then 7000 has 4 digits, then 500 has 3 and finally 75 has 2 digits.
\[\therefore \] the descending order is 80000 > 7000 > 500 > 75.
Example 2: Arrange the following numbers in descending order:
5000, 7500, 8000, 7000
\[\therefore \] the descending order is 8000 > 7500 > 7000 > 5000.
Example 3: Arrange the following numbers in descending order:
50000, 70500, 80000, 70020
\[\therefore \] the descending order is 80000 > 70500 > 70020 > 50000.
Example 4: Arrange the following numbers in ascending order:
5, 7, 8, 2
\[\therefore \] the ascending order is 2 < 5 < 7 < 8.
Example 5: Arrange the following numbers in ascending order:
250, 560, 780, 356
\[\therefore \] the ascending order is 250 < 356 < 560 < 780.
Example 6: Arrange the following numbers in descending order:
500000, 750000, 800000, 700000
\[\therefore \] the descending order is 800000 > 750000 > 700000 > 500000.
Example 7: Arrange the following numbers in ascending order:
50, 43, 78, 96
\[\therefore \] the ascending order is 96 > 78 > 50 > 43.
Note: The students might make the mistake of remembering the different two terms: Ascending and Descending but they must remember that in Ascending, we ascend that means we move forward. So, we take the smallest first and then keep on moving forward whereas in Descending, we descend that means we move backwards. So, we take the largest first and then keep on moving towards the smallest.
In other words: In descending order, we arrange the numbers from biggest to smallest and in ascending order, we do the opposite, that is first the smallest number and then in end, the biggest number.
