Hint: e must remember that In ceramics and glassmaking, we can use $Mn{O_2}$ ceramics as inorganic pigment. Electrolytic manganese dioxide is required by batteries, and chemical manganese dioxide is required by ferrites. We can prepare $Mn{O_2}$ in the laboratory by volumetric analysis.
Complete step by step answer:
We know that $Mn{O_2}$ is an inorganic compound and has the chemical name of manganese (IV) oxide. It is a blackish (or) brown solid that is found in nature as the mineral pyrolusite. We can use it as a precursor to prepare other manganese compounds like $KMn{O_4}$.
Manganese (IV) oxide has some impurities and a limited amount of manganese (III) oxide.
We can synthesize manganese (IV) oxide by converting natural manganese dioxide in the presence of dinitrogen tetroxide and water to manganese (II) nitrate solution. The crystalline nitrate salt is left by evaporation of the water. The salt gets decomposed, liberating ${N_2}{O_4}$ and residue of purified manganese dioxide is obtained. We can write the chemical reaction is,
$Mn{O_2} + {N_2}{O_4} \rightleftharpoons Mn{\left( {N{O_3}} \right)_2}$
When we combine manganese heptoxide and manganese monoxide in 1:3 ratio, we get manganese oxide. We can write this reaction as,
$M{n_2}{O_7} + 3MnO \to 5Mn{O_2}$
We can also prepare manganese (IV) oxide using potassium permanganate over manganese sulfur to obtain the desired oxide. This reaction is written as,
$2KMn{O_4} + 3MnS{O_4} + 2{H_2}O \to 5Mn{O_2} + {K_2}S{O_4} + 2{H_2}S{O_4}$
In the laboratory, we can prepare $Mn{O_2}$ by the titration of potassium permanganate in an alkaline medium.
So, the correct answer is Option D.
Note:
We can use $Mn{O_2}$ as a substance in dry cell batteries like alkaline batteries, Leclanche cells or zinc carbon batteries. We can use $Mn{O_2}$ in oxidation of allylic alcohols. In the oxidation of amine, aromatization, oxidation of thiol and oxidative coupling $Mn{O_2}$ is used as one of the reagents.
