Chemical bonds formed between different atoms to form compounds provide stability to them and due to this reason we find varieties of chemical compounds in nature or in labs having different types of bonding.
Atoms can combine in different ways and depending upon the number of electron pairs shared compounds have single, double, triple bonds.
But single, double and triple bonding is in covalent bonds only in which there is sharing of electrons.
When there is sharing of only one pair of electrons between atoms they are called to be forming single bonds with each other. Hence, they are forming single bond or single covalent bonds with each other. Single bond is represented by a dash (-) between atoms in compressed or in line form. Mostly the atoms having a single electron in their valence shell forms this compound. Along with them the atoms having seven electrons in the valence shell take up one electron to have a stable formation of a single bond. The whole purpose of atoms is to attain maximum stability.
