What is a block mountain?

Types of block mountains:
Tilted block mountains with steep sides represented by faults and gently sloping sides, and
 Lifted block mountains are the original eyrie and are characterized by flat peaks of tabular shape and very steep slopes, represented by two boundary fault rocks. The block mountains are also known as the Horst mountains.

Block mountain region:

(i)The large Rocky Mountains around Lakes Albert, Warner and Klamath in the Steens Mountains in southern Oregon, the Wasatch Mountains in Utah province and others.

(ii) the Vosges and the Black Forest, which borders the Rhine Rift valley fault in Europe, and

(iii) Salt Ridge in Pakistan and other countries. Sierra Nevada Mountain in California (USA) is considered to be the largest block mountain in the world.

(iv) The mountain spans 640 km (400 miles) with a width of 80 km (50 miles) and an altitude of 2400 to 3600 m (8000 to 12000 feet). There are differences of opinion among scientists about the origin of the block mountains.

Theories of Block Mountains: Fault theory, Erosion theory. Mountains are classified into four main types: upwarped, volcanic, faulted block, and folded (complex). In India, the Satpura and Vindhya mountains are in particular the block mountains in the central and western parts of the Indian subcontinent.
